USDA launches KYF2 Compass Map to track local food systems

FBR Staff Writer Published 27 March 2012

The US Department of Agriculture's (USDA) has launched KYF2 Compass Map, an interactive, web-based map which provides information about the local and regional food systems.

The KYF2 Compass Map provides the public with a way to access information about where food is grown and the availability of local markets.

The map is expected to benefit farmers, educators, businesses, and other organizations by aggregating many sources of data about local and regional food supply chains.

The KYF2 Compass Map uses the geographic information system (GIS) technology developed by Esri, a market leader in GIS technology. In addition, it uses web map services designed and developed by Vsolvit, a leading provider of geospatial and information technology consulting services.

In the future, Esri plans to update and add new datasets to the map and also offer dynamic map views and map services.
