NSF International has over 70 years of experience in food safety auditing, training and consulting, and with this acquisition it intends to grow its food safety and quality services throughout food manufacturing and retail sectors in Australia and New Zealand.

The Burwater Pacific Group and NSF International have been associated for several years now, providing food safety, auditing and training services for NSF International clients in New Zealand.

Following the acquisition, The Burwater Pacific Group will be rechristened as NSF Burwater and will become part of NSF International's Food Safety and Quality Division. The new division will function under NSF International Asia Pacific managing director Peter Bracher.

The New Zealand School of Hygiene Ltd, the Food Auditor Ltd, and Shoppers Anon Ltd., a mystery shopping service, will be managed by NSF Burwater.

The merger of the two companies brings together similar commitment to food safety, auditing and training services, NSF International stated. The NSF Burwater team will continue to undertake food safety operations throughout the two continents, with the support of NSF International's technical experts in the US, Asia, Europe and Latin America.

The acquisition is likely to benefit NSL International food safety clients as the multinational food businesses would have their own food safety auditing, certification, consulting and training needs fulfilled across New Zealand and Australia.

NSF Burwater will offer services such as technical consulting, which includes services such as product development, label review and development, food control plans and HACCP development, micro and chemical sampling, internal auditing, training and product development.

The new company will also offer auditing services such as global standards and third-party regulatory audits and franchise compliance and operational standards review. The company will also provide consultation, coaching and formal training in all areas from basic food handling to food safety program development and allergen management.

With this acquisition, the existing NSF Burwater clients will gain access to NSF International's array of services.

NSF International food safety and quality senior vice president Tom Chestnut said: "The addition of the Burwater Pacific Group to the NSF International Global Food Safety and Quality Division enables us to provide global auditing, certification, training and consulting services to the New Zealand and Australian food industry for our multinational retail customers and complements our current operations in the Asia-Pacific region, where we have offices in Korea, China, Thailand and India."

"We welcome the expertise, strong reputation and shared commitment to food safety that the Burwater Pacific Group brings to NSF International's food safety and quality business."

NSF Burwater team will continue to operate from New Zealand. Burwater co-founder Tracey Burrows will continue lead the NSF Burwater Shoppers Anon service and also provide other key management support.
